Abstract

1343831 N<SP>1</SP>-Aryl-N<SP>5</SP>-substituted biguanides BAYER AG 19 April 1971 [3 March 1970 13 Oct 1970] 22815/71 Heading C2C [Also in Division A5] Biguanides of Formula (I) (in which each of R and R<SP>1</SP> is F; alkyl or alkenyl of up to 6 C atoms which may be substituted by 1 to 3 F atoms (but not CF 3 ); cycloalkyl, cycloalkylalkyl or cycloalkenyl of 5-8 C atoms; alkoxy, alkylthio or alkylsulphonyl of 1-4 C atoms; or CN; R<SP>1</SP> can further be H, Cl or Br; each of R<SP>2</SP> and R<SP>3</SP> is alkyl, alkenyl, alkoxyalkyl, cycloalkyl or cycloalkylalkyl of 1-12 C atoms, the alkyl, alkenyl and alkoxyalkyl groups having a straight or branched chain provided that they have a straight chain when they contain 3 C atoms), and acid addition salts thereof, are prepared by (a) reacting an amine of Formula (II) or a salt thereof, with a dicyan-diamide of Formula (III) or (b) reacting an amine of formula R<SP>2</SP>R<SP>3</SP>NH or a salt thereof, with a compound of Formula (IV) or (e) replacing the mercapto or 5-alkylthio group of a thio- or dithio-biuret derivative or an S-alkyl derivative thereof with an amino, alkylamino or arylamino group.
