1343361 Stirrer-type ball mills DRAIS WERKE GmbH 19 July 1971 [28 July 1970] 33724/71 Heading B2A An agitator mill comprises a sieve arrangement formed by a sieve cartridge one end of which projects into the mill tank and the other end of which is attached to the material outlet. As described, in one embodiment three cartridges 9, 10, 11 are connected to the outlet pipe connection 8, Figs. 2, 3. The cartidges are located in sleeves 12, 13, 14 inserted in holes in the envelope wall of the mill tank 1. The cartridges are maintained in position by the flange 8b of the outlet pipe cooperating with a corresponding flange 8b in the tank. The cartridges are made of fine mesh metal fabric or perforated thin sheet metal. The end may be of the same material or closed. In a second embodiment cartridges 15, 16, Fig. 4 are inserted into a mill cover-plate 21 by screwthreaded plugs 19, 20. The plugs include cavities 24, 25 connected via channels 26, 27, 29 to a header space 30 of annular shape which issues into the outlet pipe connection 32. In both embodiments the bearing for the shaft is flexibly mounted, as at 4, Fig. 2, or 33, Fig. 4. The shaft is floating and bears agitator discs 3. The grinding balls may be from 0.2 to 3 mm diameter and the ball charge may be 50-70% of the tank volume.
