Abstract

1343019 Slot dip galvanizing apparatus W H GARRISON 5 Jan 1971 [5 Jan 1970] 506/71 Heading C7F [Also in Division B8] Apparatus used in galvanizing comprises an apertured workpiece basket 20 rotatable about a vertical axis which is freely suspended from a support 42 which co-operates with a horizontally movable member 52. A female socket 88 fixed to collar 90 on suspending hook 42 co-operates with shaft 78 of a spin air motor in housing 46 and the hook is rotated in bearings 92, 94. A second hook 50 extending from hoist pulley 52 supports the basket via eye 48 in housing 46. Air drive motors 56, 62 mounted on rails 64 are connected to the pulley via cable 54 for horizontal and vertical movement respectively and controlled via throttles 58, 66, Rotation of the spin motor in housing 46 is controlled by air throttle 76. The loaded work basket 20 is moved through pickle, rinse and flux tanks 28, where it is rotated at up to 100 r.p.m. The basket is immersed in the zinc bath 32, rotated at 100 r.p.m., then removed to above the quench tank 34 surrounded by shields 36 and spun at 725 r.p.m. It is then immersed in the quench tank while still spinning and then lifted and spun for drying.
