Abstract
786,193. Elevated conveyers. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP METALLIC INDUSTRY. March 12, 1954 [March 12, 1953], No. 7324/54. Classes 104 (2) and 104 (3). A conveying or transfer device for metallic or non-metallic objects to be treated in one or more baths comprises members which support and move the objects in a predetermined cycle over a guide the conveying members comprising a number of separate electric motor driven carriages having a suspension rack to support the objects to be treated and moving along the guide which is a fixed endless path with portions arranged at suitably different levels so that objects may be lowered into or withdrawn from the treating baths. The guide 11 comprises upper and lower horizontal portions 11b, 11a and vertical portions 11c and is traversed by a support member 1 carrying an electric motor 10 and a horizontal arm 26 which supports the objects to be treated. In the arrangement shown in Figs. 1, 1a and 3 the guide 11 is of hexagonal cross-section and the member 1 is supported thereon by rollers 13, 14 engaging running surfaces 16, 17. The guide 11 is supported at the surface 18 and the current supply to the motor 10 is obtained from three conduits 19 supported on and insulated from the surface 15a. The member 1 is driven along the guide 11 by the motor 10 through the roller 13. Current required say for a galvanizing process in tank 5 is obtained from conduits 20 by a current collector 22 attached to the member 1 and is fed through cables 23 to the objects to be treated held in suspension racks 24. In the arrangement of Fig. 4 (not shown) the D.C. motor 10 is fed with a 42-volt supply at some points of the guide and with a 6-volt supply at other guide points so as to vary the speed of the objects through various processing tanks. A reversing switch is also provided to enable the member 1 to be oscillated along various horizontal portions 11a such as the guide portion above a rinsing tank. In the arrangement shown in Figs. 8 and 9 the support member 1<SP>1</SP> is supported on a C-shaped guide 11<SP>1</SP> by rollers 131, 14<SP>1</SP> and is driven therealong by a pinion 62 mounted on the motor shaft 69 and engaging a rack 63. At turntable-like members 11e, Fig. 9, for interconnecting the upper horizontal portions 11b<SP>1</SP> and a vertical portion 11c<SP>1</SP> of the guide a roller 13<SP>1</SP> abuts a stop 73 and the turntablelike member 11e mounted on a shaft 68 is rotated through 90 degrees by pinions 62, 64 and 71 mounted on a shaft 68 through a fixed pinion 72. When the turntable-like member 11e is in alignment with the vertical portion 11c<SP>1</SP> of the guide it engages an abutment (not shown) and its rotation is stopped, the pinion 62 being unable to cause further rotation of the turntable-like member 11e then moves into engagement with the racks 63, 63 and drives the member 1 downwardly over the vertical portion of the guide 11c<SP>1</SP>. On the return journey over the vertical portion 11c<SP>1</SP> the pinion 62 rotates in the opposite direction and after the support member 1<SP>1</SP> engages the stop 73 the turntable-like member 11e is rotated to the position shown in Fig. 9 and the stud 73 is withdrawn by energizing a winding 74 and the support member 1<SP>1</SP> is then able to travel along the horizontal portion 11b<SP>1</SP>.
