Abstract

1342499 Lubricating oils SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ BV 19 April 1971 [9 March 1970 28 Dec 1970] 21969/71 Heading C5E A lubricating oil of high viscosity index is prepared by hydrocracking a high boiling mineral oil fraction with a catalyst comprising (a) Ni and/or Co (b) Mo and/or W (each in metallic oxidic and/or sulphidic form) and (c) phosphorus oxide supported on a refractory oxide carrier, such as Al 2 O 3 or SiO 2 -MgO. The feedstock is preferably a deasphalted residual oil or vacuum distillate boiling between 350‹ and 550‹ C. The cracking conditions may be 400-500‹ C. and 100-200 bars. The fraction boiling at 350-400‹ C. is distilled from the product and the high boiling residue is dewaxed (e.g. using a mixture of methylethylketone and toluene). The slack wax obtained may be catalytically hydroisomerized preferably using the same catalyst as the hydrocracking, and consecutively in the same reactor.
