Abstract

1341824 Composite structural beam G M J WILLIAMS M E FULLER and E T FULLER 19 April 1971 [31 Oct 1969] 53591/69 Headings E1K and E1W A composite steel beam for use in a reinforced, cast-in-situ or precast concrete floor slab 5, comprises a castellated lower portion 1 a longitudinal upper member 6 and a number of transverse upper shear connectors 7. The castellated lower portion is one half of an I- beam, e.g. a universal beam. The shear connectors may be of T-, L-, or U-section, or, as shown at 7, in the form of studs. The member 6 may be a single T-section, as in Fig. 2, or a pair of angle-sections may be employed, bolted on either side of portion 1. The end castellations of portion 1 may be cut at half the height of the original I-beam from which the portion 1 is formed.
