In Fig. 8, the die 15 includes a spring-urged piston 17. The plate 4 may be initially a solid plate, a plate having an aperture smaller than the maximum diameter of the bolt head, or of cupped form. When pressed over the bolt head(s), the plate is left with an upturned flange abuting the bolt head, or may have a cupped form completely covering the head. The pressing operation may also conform the plate 4 to the profile of the workpiece 6.
