Abstract

1340564 Coating method PROCTER & GAMBLE CO 23 April 1971 [8 May 1970] 11098/71 Heading B2E A flexible web is coated by feeding the web past a transfer roll, the outer portion of which consists of or contains the coating material, in surface contact therewith, under conditions of slip between the web and the periphery of the roll and under such conditions that as the transfer roll wears to a smaller diameter, uniform transfer to the web is maintained. The roll may be made from waxy or pliant materials and a predetermined amount of slip is obtained by maintaining a speed differential between the web and roll surface. The waxy material may be a paraffin wax or may include lanolin or a fabric softener. The substrate may be a paper web or a cloth web. The amount of wax transferred may be determined by variation of the amount of wrap of the web around the coating roll. In the Examples an unwoven rayon fabric having an acrylic binder is coated with paraffin wax.
