Abstract

1340416 Diazonium compounds OCE-VAN DER GRINTEN NV 17 June 1971 [19 June 1970] 28520/71 Heading C2C [Also in Division G2] The invention comprises a diazonium compound of the formula wherein X represents an anion, one of Z 1 and Z 2 is a halogen atom and the other is a hydrogen atom, R 13 is an alkyl, an alkenyl or a p-substituted phenyl group; R 14 is an alkyl group, and R 15 is an alkyl, cycloalkyl or aralkyl group. In the examples compounds of the above formula are obtained by reduction and diazotization of the corresponding 4-nitro-N,N-dialkylaniline which is itself obtained by reacting an appropriate mercaptan with dihalonitrobenzene followed by reduction of the nitro group, protection of the resulting amino group, nitration of the ring, saponification of the protected amino group, and alkylation of the said amino group. The compounds are light-sensitive and are useful in diazo-type materials.
