The door 4 is pivotally mounted about a horizontal axis 6 and is opened by a hand grip 7, whereas the shutter 5 slides vertically under the control of counterweighted cable and drum mechanisms 16, 16A, 17 manually openable by a drum handle 15. A pivoted lever arm 14, at its upper end, is gravitationally or spring biased downwardly to lock the door 4 closed when the lower end of the lever 14 is free, this lower end being freed by the shutter 5 as soon as it starts to move upwardly to open. Side cheeks on the hopper door 4 each have an arm 9 pivotally connected at one end thereto, the other end being pivoted to a disc 8 on the hopper housing, and a further arm 10 pivoted to each disc 8 passes through guides 11 and 12 to cross the travel path of the shutter 5, the arrangement being such that as soon as the door 4 starts to open, the discs 8 rotate causing the rods 10 to block the path of the shutter 5 thereby preventing it opening.
