Abstract

1,271,605. Tipping and discharging opentopped containers. LAFARGE CANADA Ltd. 21 Jan., 1970 [19 Feb., 1969], No. 2919/70. Heading B8E. To discharge an open-topped container, e.g. an oil drum 74, Fig. 5, a bucket 5 suspended by a frame 2 is lowered over the container and a handle 66, Fig. 1, is moved upwards to release a stop 70 so that the frame 2 is free to pivot. This movement of the handle 66 also looks a pair of doors 8, 10, Fig. 3 (not shown), in the closed position. The frame 2 is now lowered until it is below gravity-operated catches 58, 60, Fig. 8, and subsequently raised, when, by abutting the catch 60, the frame tips the bucket and the container 74 into the position shown in Fig. 8. The frame is now raised vertically and the bucket swings into a vertical position in which it is transported to the discharge station. As the bucket is lowered a rod 64 attached to the handle 66 is pushed inwards to release the door catch. The doors 8, 10 are now manually or automatically opened to discharge the contents of the drum, some of which are already in the bucket. The frame 2 is next lowered below the catches 60, 58 and raised again to tip the empty bucket to the position shown in Fig. 11. From this position the frame is lowered to its original position and locked there by engagement with a spring catch attached to the handle 66. The cycle of operations is now complete.
