Abstract
1339437 Alloys-oxidizing steels UNITED STATES STEEL CORP 3 Dec 1970 [5 Dec 1969] 57547/70 Addition to 1212024 Headings C7A and C7U A ductile steel has a non-oriented polycrystalline structure and consists of C upto 0À025%, Si 1À5-2À75%, Al 1À5-6À0% with the balance Fe and normal steel-making impurities and with the total content of Al + Si is 3-7À5% and the percentage of Al is greater than or equal to that of Si. The cast steel is hot rolled twice at temperatures of 2350-1600F. with a period of slow cooling in between, then quenched with a water spray and annealed at temperatures between 1400- 2100F. for from 3 mins. to 8 hours in an atmosphere of N 2 or H 2 or a mixture thereof containing sufficient water vapour to give a dew point between 30 and -26F. This final treatment produces a surface coating of a complex oxide of aluminium, silicon and iron which has a high resistance to electrical current flow.
