Abstract

1337530 Lubricating SULZER BROS Ltd 27 Oct 1972 [27 Oct 1971] 49722/72 Heading F2A [Also in Division G1] To measure the pressure in the combustion chamber 12 of an I.C. piston engine, a pressure transducer 16 is mounted on a housing 15 having a cavity leading to the combustion chamber by way of conduits 13, 14, a pump 21 supplying oil to the chamber being connected to the conduit 14 by way of a non-return valve 18, the conduit 20 leading from the pump containing a pressurelimiting device 22 which only allows oil to be supplied to the chamber when the pressure is relatively low. As described, the pump is the engine lubricating oil pump, and the pressure limiting device includes a spring-biased piston 24 movable in a cylinder 24 and sealed by a rolling diaphragm 25. The transducer is a quartz pressure transducer providing an electrical signal via a line 17 leading to a measuring, indicating and/or recording device.
