Abstract

[Also in Division F2] A transducer has a sensing element 2 located in a housing 1 and surrounded by a member comprising a slotted spring sleeve 3 itself surrounded by a flexible member 6 supported in a direction transverse to its length by the walls of the sleeve 3 to which it is secured air-tightly at its ends 7, 8. For use in measuring the pressure behaviour in the cylinders of internal combustion engines and compressors, the housing 1 is provided with a thread 9 so that it can be screwed into a measurement passage and is closed at its external end by a ring diaphragm 10 transmitting the pressure to the sleeve 3 and thereby to the element 2. Coolant is directed through passages 11, 12 and an annular space 13 to cool the sleeve 3 and diaphragm 10 and electric leads pass through a bore 14. The sensing element 2 may be a Piezo-electric, capacitive or inductive device. The transducer may be arranged to measure force or acceleration.
