Abstract
1337213 Printing apparatus WINDMOLLER & HOLSCHER 14 March 1972 [26 March 1971] 11799/72 Heading B6C An indirect intaglio printing machine comprises an impression cylinder 8 and at least one blanket cylinder 4 which co-operates with an intaglio cylinder 3, the or each intaglio cylinder having an auxiliary drive by which it can be rotated when the impression cylinder is not rotating and the or each blanket cylinder being trippable from its intaglio cylinder and provided with means by which it can be returned to contact with the intaglio cylinder without loss of register. Preferably register is brought about by use of disengageable coupling which transmits rotation only when its components are in a particular disposition. During printing the cylinders may all be driven from a central gear wheel 10, which is mounted on the shaft of the impression cylinder and drives the other cylinders through trains of gears. Between the blanket cylinder 4 and intaglio cylinder 3 of a pair two coupling components 22, 24 each have a single asymmetrical tooth, with one steeply inclined face and one which is a shallow ramp, so that when the intaglio cylinder is turned by its auxiliary drive the teeth slip over one another, but when drive from the gear wheel 10 is resumed the steep faces of the teeth abut, under action of a spring 25, and drive is transmitted with the cylinders in a set phase relation.
