Abstract

1336304 Folding sheets H J WEIR 19 Nov 1970 [22 Nov 1969] 57260/69 Heading D1S [Also in Division B8] Apparatus for folding and stacking laundry articles such as bed-sheets, towels and tablecloths comprises a tucker for tucking an article between a pair of plate jaws c which may be actuated by a pair of pneumatic cylinders 1 to clamp an article about a fold line as it is swung about a horizontal axis onto a stack. The tucker may comprise a blade e which may be mounted vertically between a two-part feed conveyor a or horizontally beneath a single feed conveyor (a Fig. 7). The blade e may be provided with fingers (Fig. 5) which can pass between parallel bands forming a feed conveyor. The blade e may be mounted transversely of or parallel to the feed conveyor. The tucker may comprise air jets (7, Fig. 4) mounted between a single feed conveyor and a flat table (16, Fig. 4). The jaws c may be rotated by a pair of pneumatic rams 2a, 2b linked by chain and sprocket drive to a jaw shaft d. The articles may be stacked on a table f or on a take-off conveyor (g, Fig. 4). The circuit for the electro-pneumatic controls is fully described (Fig. 3). The controls may also be electric e.g. solenoid clamps, pneumatic e.g. fluidic switches or hydraulic.
