Abstract

1335656 Contact units for switches PLESSEY CO Ltd 28 Oct 1970 [28 Oct 1969] 19488/73 Divided out of 1335341 Heading H1N A sealed magnetic reed contact unit has a pair of aligned elongate members 21, 22 of conductive magnetic material spaced apart endwise of each other, the adjacent end portions providing flat surfaces for co-operation with an armature 28 mounted on a resilient cantilever 29 mounted on one of the members 21 so as to bridge the members 21, 22 on magnetization. The opposed ends of the members 21, 22 are angled away from each other so that the space therebetween is at a minimum at the contact surfaces thereof. A resistor block 30 may be inserted between the cantilever 22 and member 21 to limit arcing and the armature 28 may engage member 22 first. Two opposed cantilevers, each with an armature may be provided (Fig. 3, not shown) and the armature may carry a tungsten wire (Fig. 4, not shown) arcing contact which co-operates with a resistor pad on the member 22. Spark gap electrodes 31, 32 may also be provided.
