1335304 Packaging BRITISH VISQUEEN Ltd 9 Oct 1972 [28 Oct 1971] 50131/71 Heading B8C Articles such as cartons 1 are enclosed in a plastics-film wrapper 2 including a tear-tape 3 heat-sealed along each edge to the wrapper by bead-seals 4 such that the wrapper will tear along seals 4 when a peeling force is applied to end 6 of the tape. The tape may be sealed to the wrapper before or during packaging. Apparatus for wrapping the articles includes tear-tape web 13 joined at 16 to wrapping web 15 arranged in a curtain into which an article 9 is pushed to drag the combined webs from respective reels 12, 14 and encompass the article. Tear tape web 13 is supplied at a speed not exceeding one quarter that of the wrapping web 15, such that when sealing and severing jaws 17, 18 operate, a second seal 16 is formed adjacent the first to define a narrow tear-tape. Conveyer 10 takes the open-ended package into shrinking oven 11.
