Abstract

1335137 Generator for ignition systems ROBERT BOSCH GmbH 6 July 1971 [7 July 1970] 31592/71 Heading H2A A generator system for use with a motor cycle internal combustion engine having electronic ignition comprises a set of magnets M<SP>1</SP> mounted inside a cylindrical, rotatable magnetic body 30 so that as they rotate they move past ends of (a) a first magnetic core 29 carrying an A.C. winding 15 for charging a storage capacitor 11, and (b) a second magnetic core 39 carrying a control winding 25 for triggering an ignitiion firing thyristor 20, the polepieces of two adjacent magnets M1<SP>1</SP>, M2<SP>1</SP> having extensions 42, 43 which project into their interpolar gap Z, and the thyristor triggering pulse being generated in the winding 25 as these two projections move past respective end faces 40, 41 of the second magnetic core. The end faces 40, 41 may themselves carry tapering magnetic projections (Fig. 2, not shown) so that the range of timing adjustment is increased. Alternatively (Fig. 3) they may carry magnetic members 45 which provide small auxiliary end faces 44 preceding the main end faces 40, 41, the size of the auxiliary end faces being such that they only cause a pulse of sufficient magnitude to fire the thyristor 20 to be generated when the rotor is rotating above a certain speed, so that when this speed is reached the ignition timing is suddenly advanced. The supply for the lighting &c. of the motor cycle may be taken from the winding 15 or from another winding on a further core.
