Abstract

1335077 Block copolymers CHEMISCHE WERKE HULS AG 19 April 1971 [24 March 1970] 24938/71 Heading C3P Two-block polymers of a conjugated diene and a conjugated alkenyl-aromatic monomer are prepared by sequential polymerization (in either order) in the presence of a hydrocarbon solvent and an organomonolithium compound as the catalyst and in the absence of polar impurities. The monomers are taken in a ratio diene : aromatic monomer of 20 : 80 to 12 : 88 by weight and the amount of catalyst is 0À24- 0À40 millimoles per mole of the monomers. The polymers thus prepared are transparent and impact-resistant. The copolymerization of styrene and butadiene in the presence of butyl lithium is described.
