Abstract

1333644 Crystal controlled oscillators and piezoelectric devices P R MALLORY & CO Inc 19 Aug 1971 [20 Aug 1970] 39017/71 Headings H3T and H4J [Also in Division G4] A noise-making device (Fig. 3) includes a piezo-electric transducer (Fig. 2) having drive means (which is constituted by two electrodes 1, 2) and feedback means (which comprises an electrode 3) with no D.C. path between them, and an electrical circuit for energizing the transducer from an amplifier to which the feedback means is coupled by a feedback loop. The transducer embodies a piezo-electric element E including a piezo-electric crystal C bonded to a substrate 5. A narrow vacant strip M separates electrodes 1 and 3. Each electrode is constituted by a thin film of, e.g. silver. The crystal may be a lead-zirconiumtitanium composite. The use of the isolated feedback electrode permits the use of the collector-to-emitter saturation characteristics of a transistor of the amplifier, so as to drive the transducer at higher voltages than normally obtained. The double-transistor amplifier can be replaced by one using a single transistor (Fig. 4, not shown). The substrate may be of brass.
