In one embodiment, Fig. 1, top and bottom walls 11, 12 of the tank comprise bowed wall sections which may be welded directly to an intermediate wall 16 or may be joined to the wall 16 by the interposition of members having Y-shaped, U-shaped, solid or hollow circular (Fig. 4), triangular (Figs. 5 and 8), rectangular (Fig. 6), or semicircular (Fig. 7) cross-sections. In further alterna - tive arrangements (Fig. 3) the intermediate wall 16 may be integral with a first wall section and a second wall section butt-welded at the transition region between the first wall section and the intermediate wall, or (Fig. 10) the intermediate wall may be welded to the apex of a bead formed integrally with and between the wall sections and the bead strengthened outside the tank by an I-section beam. In a further embodiment, Fig. 12, the tank comprises three intersecting substantially part-cylindrical parts 47, 48 and two intermediate walls 53. Each end of the parts 47, 48 is closed by intersecting partspherical sections 54 or alternatively (Fig. 19) by two bowed end wall sections (74) positioned in openings defined by struts and beams of the frame. The tank is strengthened by tie rods 58 of arcuate or circular cross-section extending through openings in the intermediate walls 53 and secured either directly or indirectly to longitudinal beams 41 which may be of U-shaped or of closed cross-section, of the frame.
