Abstract

1333118 Refrigerator doors SADIA AIROFREEZE Ltd 10 Dec 1971 [17 Dec 1970 5 April 1971] 59874/70 and 8673/71 Heading E1J To allow for differential expansion of the two faces of a refrigerator door having outer and inner opposed panels 1, 2 secured a fixed distance apart by clamps which permit relative movement of the panels in their own planes, the outer, metal panel 1 has a peripheral L- sectioned flange 4, 6 with a U-sectioned clamp 7 on one end, the limb 8 of the clamp bearing against the inner panel 2 to urge it against peripheral spacer blocks 3 (e.g. of expanded polystyrene). The door cavity is filled with expanded polyurethane foam 11 with a sheet 15 of e.g. plastics, or preferably, bituminized paper bonded thereto. A peripheral seal 9 may be secured to the flange 6 by the clamp 7. Reinforced parts may be provided for locks, handles and hinge bushes 13. Air holes may be drilled in the inner panel 2 (which may be of plastics). To make the door, the panel 1 is secured in a jig, the spacers 3 are inserted and the foam 11 is then injected and allowed to partially set. The inner panel 2 is then clamped in place.
