Abstract

1332504 Transferring cigarette packets from and between endless conveyers HAUNIWERKE KORBER & CO KG 16 Oct 1970 [22 Nov 1969] 49302/70 Heading B8A Cigarette packets &c. 102 on a conveyer belt 101, are transferred to either of a pair of conveyer belts 119, 126, by a rotary disc 103, the selection depending on the presence or absence of a predetermined characteristic. The latter has suction apertures 109 backed by suction chambers 111, 129. If suction is not applied to the chamber 129, an article picked up by the disc 103 as it passes under the bore 111, is dropped on to the belt 119. When suction is applied to the box 129, the article is carried round to the belt 126. Control of the suction to box 129 is effected by a valve 113 operated in response to a signal from a decade counter 137. The latter is connected to a reflection light control unit 136. Thus if conveyer 119 leads to a packing machine, every tenth packet may be diverted to conveyer 126 for quality control purposes. In this ease the predetermined characteristic is the position of the packet in the movin stream. In another arrangement, alternate packets may be transferred to conveyer 119 while the remaining packet are fed away on conveyer 126. If the input conveyer 101 is conveying wrapped packets, the unit 136, which may be responsive to colour, may be used to detect unwrapped packets. In a modification (Fig. 1, not shown) the belt 126 may be formed by a continuation of the belt 101.
