Abstract

1332163 Apparatus for treating textiles FUJI PHOTO FILM CO Ltd 16 Nov 1970 [17 Nov 1969] 54456/70 Heading D1L [Also in Division B2] An applicator roller has its surface divided into lyophilic and lyophobic areas such that droplets 8 are formed on the surface of the roller and even at relatively 1ow rotational speeds the lyophobic areas prevent the droplets running back into the reservoir 6 from the surface of the roller. When the droplets approach the substrate 12 to be coated they spread out to evenly cover the undersurface thereof. In a modification the circumference of the roller may be corrugated with lyophobic areas at the crests and lyophilic areas in the troughs. In a further modification the roller is replaced by continuous belt which has 1yophilic and lyophobic areas. The lyophilic areas may be treated with fluorine, resin wax, polystyrene, epoxide resin, pvc and various copolymers. The lyophilic areas may be a gelatin layer with water or hydrophilic resins plasticised with poly-alcohol.
