Abstract

1332119 Pipe to plate joints UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY 19 April 1971 [1 Dec 1969] 58661/69 Heading F2G A pipe to plate assembly includes a plate 1 subject to compressive stress in the region between the surface 6 and plane 8 and tensile stress in the region between the surface 7 and plane 8. Pipes 3, 4, 5 are therefore soldered, welded or brazed at 11, 12, 13 respectively in the region subject to compressive stress so as to reduce their liability to fatigue. The pipe/ plate joint may be achieved by explosive welding and such an assembly used in a sodium and water/steam heat exchanger. The pipe 2 as connected by the joint 10 illustrates the prior art.
