1331562 Electronic flash control MULTIBLITZ DR ING D A MANNESMANN GmbH & CO K G 20 April 1972 [28 April 1971] 18411/72 Heading G2A An electronic flash unit has a flash tube 12, a charge storage capacitor 10, and means for feeding a counter voltage into the discharge circult to quench the flash tube as controlled by a photo-electric detector 24 receiving light reflected from the object and connected to an integrating element 26, wherein a diode 14 is connected in series with the flash tube in the discharge circuit and conducts only in the direction of the discharge current. The counter voltage is produced by triggering a thyristor 20 so that an auxiliary capacitor 18 is discharged through a resistor 16 common with the flash discharge circuit. If the voltage across the charge storage capacitor 10 has been reduced substantially by the flash discharge, the diode 14 prevents any possibility of the auxiliary discharge current being conducted through the flash tube during its deionization period and a further flash is prevented. The values of the capacitor 18 and the resistor 16 are so chosen that the counter voltage is maintained for a period sufficient for the deionization of the flash tube.
