Abstract

1396685 Electronic flash control FRANKE & HEIDECKE GmbH 5 July 1973 [10 Aug 1972] 32148/73 Heading G2A Closing an ignition switch 8 discharges a capacitor 7 through a transformer 10 to ionize a flash tube 2 connected to a storage capacitor 3 by a resistor 14, and the resulting positive pulse is conducted via capacitors 18, 26 and a voltage divider 27, 28 to fire a thyristor 17 which shorts out resistor 14 and provides a full flash current flow through tube 2. This ensures that the tube is ionized before commencement of the main discharge. The light reflected from the object is detected by a photo-electric measuring device 21 which at a pre-set level fires a switch 19 whereby capacitor 18 discharges to provide a reverse current flow through switch 17 and via capacitor 26 and divider 27, 29 to provide a negative pulse on the control electrode 29 of switch 17. This switches off switch 17 to terminate the flash. The negative pulse on the electrode 29 reduces the time required for switch 17 to switch off and therefore reduces the capacitance required of capacitor 18.
