Abstract
1331554 Crosslinkable polyethylene compositions SUMITOMO ELECTRIC INDUST. RIES Ltd 19 April 1971 [8 April 1970] 26469/71 Heading C3P Crosslinkable polyethylene compositions comprising (1) 100 parts by weight of an ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer containing 10 to 55 weight per cent of vinyl acetate, (2) 1 to 20 parts by weight of at least one ageing inhibitor, (3) low density polyethylene and (4) a crosslinking agent, are prepared by compounding the copolymer with the ageing inhibitor at a temperature at least equal to the melting point of the inhibitor, and compounding the resulting composition with the polyethylene and crosslinking agent. Specified ageing inhibitors are 4,4<SP>1</SP>-thiobis(6-t-butyl-m-cresol), N,N<SP>1</SP>-di-#-naphthyl pphenylenediamine and aldol/α-naphthylamine condensates. The crosslinking agent may be dicumyl peroxide and fillers, e.g. clay and talc, may also be present. The compositions may be used for insulating wires and cables.
