Abstract

1331422 Floating booms B G RAYNER 28 Sept 1970 [10 July 1969] 34762/69 Heading E1H [Also in Divisions B1 and F2] A skimmer for collecting floating oil 4 has a tubular member 1 extending between vessels 2 and furnished with floats 8, a sealed buoyancy-section 10, liquid-inlet passages, or "troughs", 12 between bulkheads 16, a reservoir 14 and a valve plate 35 controlling a passage 17 between each trough and the reservoir, the plate being raised to an open position by floats 38 thereon when there is sufficient liquid in the trough. Oil and water is drawn from the reservoir into tanks 7 by pumps 6. Baffles 44 equalize the suction (due to the pumps) in the various passages 17. Apertures 42 allow water to enter a portion 13 of the member 1. The floats 8 may be dispensed with and the member 1 may be made of a buoyant material. (For Figures see next page)
