Abstract

1331055 Threaded studs TELCO Ltd 22 Oct 1970 [25 Nov 1969] 57655/69 Heading F2H In means for locking together first and second engaged screw threaded members including a key adapted to be forced into a cut parallel to the axis of one screw threaded member to engage a second screw threaded member so as to bear against and deform the threads of the second member, the key comprises a pin having a cylindrical body 4 of circular cross-section integral with a punch portion 5, the end 7 of the pin being of reduced diameter relative to the body of the pin to form a weakened region. As shown, the first member is a nut 1 and the cut therein has a depth approximating to the difference between the crest and root diameters of its screw thread. The cut may be a groove or a hole. A piece of studding may be converted into a bolt by staking a hexagonal nut thereon; the key may be used for removal of broken studs; if threads are clogged with paint the edges of the groove allow the nut to operate as a paint stripper.
