1330708 Yarn crimping process HEBERLEIN & CO AG 18 Dec 1970 [24 Dec 1969] 60309/70 Heading D1F A process for crimping heat-settable textile yarns comprises temporarily twisting together at least two such yarns 1, 2 with the aid of a false-twisting device 8, heat setting the twisted yarns and passing the yarns from the falsetwist device 8 through a common pair of feed rollers 11, 12, the yarns being pulled apart at an acute angle after leaving the device 8 and before reacting the feed rollers 11, 12. The yarns are preferably pulled apart at an angle of at least 10‹, especially in the range 10‹-45‹. In a preferred embodiment, the yarns 1,2 are fed through rolls 3, 4 at which they are joined, and passed over a contact heater 6 to a false-twist device 8, which may be a twist tube or a friction twister. The yarns are separated on leaving the device 8 and passed through guides 9, 10 to bring them into parallel relationship before passing through the feed rolls 11, 12 to wind-on devices. The use of a common pair of feed rolls 11, 12 ensures equal tension in the separated yarns. In a preferred embodiment of the process, the twist device 8 comprises a twist tube 7 with a transverse sapphire pin around which the yarns are wrapped by one turn. The yarns are preferably of polyamides, polyester, vinyl-based polymers, polyolefins, or cellulose acetate, but may also be mixed yarns of thermoplastic fibres and non-thermoplastic natural fibres.
