Abstract

1,119,361. Crimping yarn. KLINGER MFG. CO. Ltd. 17 Dec., 1964 [20 Dec., 1963], No. 50491/63. Headings DID, D1F and D1W. A method of crimping at least two yarns simultaneously comprises feeding the yarns-which may be mono- or multi-filament yarns and include or consist of thermoplastic material, for example, nylon-through three separating means 14-15, 16-19, and 28-29, spaced apart along the yarns, rotating the two ends means, or the middle means, so that the yarns on opposite sides of the location of the middle means are twisted together in opposite directions, stopping the twisted operation, and passing the yarns through the separating means whilst maintaining the twists in the stretches of the yarns on opposite sides of the middle means. As described the middle separating means comprise rollers 16, 17 around which the yarns are respectively passed and which are rotatably mounted on bar 18 fixed in an externally toothed ring 19 which is rotated by motor 20 through variable speed transmission 19 which may include a clutch. Alternatively the middle means may comprise a rotatable pin member. The temperature of heater plates 24, 25 may differ and the number of twists in the two yarns may also differ, so that a non-torque yarn can be obtained. A variable bulked yarn may be produced by periodically altering the number of twists in the two zones-by rotating the twisting member-, or by changing the length of the twist zones-by reciprocating one or more of the separating means-. Eyes 14, 15 may be replaced by a gate tensioner or hysteresis tensioning disc. The apparatus may be modified to crimp 3, 4 or more yarns together. Yarns 10 and 11 are separated from one another at equal speeds by means of a plate 27 pivoted at 27a and having yarns guides 26, 30, 31 so arranged that if one yarn, 10 say, tends to be withdrawn at a faster speed than the other yarn, plate 27 pivots causing yarn 10 to move towards the smaller diameter end of rollers 34, 35 to reduce the speed of the yarn. The yarns may be wound on bobbins 41, 42 or on a single bobbin.
