Abstract
1330644 Oxo process; metal complexes BRITISH PETROLEUM CO Ltd 7 Oct 1970 [20 Oct 1969] 41506/69 Headings C2C and C2P [Also in Divisions C1 and C3] In a process for the hydroformylation of olefins, using a Rh-containing catalyst, Rh is recovered from the reaction product solution by contacting the solution with a polymer containing trivalent phosphorus, and then eluting the Rh from the polymer. The Rh containing solution may then be reused in the catalytic process (see Example 4e). In Example 2, a solution of hexene-1 in n-heptane is passed over a P-containing polystyrene catalyst containing Rh, and the product solution of heptaldehydes is contacted with a P-containing chloromethylated polystyrene to remove Rh. Exemplified eluents are diphenylphosphinoethane, acetyl acetone, triethyl phosphite, tributyl phosphine, pyridine, and aminothiophenol. Extraction and elution may be effected at 50-200‹ C. Metal-organic complexes are obtained by contacting a solution containing the metal with a polymer containing trivalent phosphorus, and then eluting the metal from the polymer with an organic compound. In the examples, the polymer used is the reaction product of chloromethylated polystyrene and K diphenyl phosphide. In Exanple 1 (d) CoCl 2 is contacted with the polymer and eluted with pyridine. In Example 4 (c) Rh(CO) 2 acetylacetonate is used, and the following eluents are exemplified:- (i), (ii) diphenylphosphinoethane; (iii), (iv) acetylacetone; (v) triethylphosphite; (vi) pyridine; (vii) tri-n-butyl phosphine; (viii) orthoamino thiophenol.
