Abstract

1330368 Grinding COMBUSTION ENG Inc 22 July 1971 [23 July 1970] 34507/71 Heading B3D Apparatus for removing imperfect threads of an internally threaded bore 14 comprises centring means 26 which has external threads 28 operative to engage the threads of the bore and is rigidly attached to a shaft 34, and a thread grinding tool 22, 24 carried by the shaft for engaging the threads of the bore and movable along a helix upon rotation of the shaft and centring means. The bore 14 may be in a pressure member for receiving threaded studs of a closure member. The centring means is in the form of a plug received by the threaded bore 14 and has a central bearing 34 for the shaft 34 which at its lower end has nuts 40 and a washer 42 and can be clamped to the plug by a nut 58 which is tapered at its end so that when tightened against the plug it locks against threads 46 on the shaft. A square portion 62 of the shaft has shoulders engaged in a slot 88 in a tool support frame 36 having a split end 80 for clamping to the drive motor 24 of the grinding tool 22. The frame is adjustable transversely of the shaft by a screw 94 to position the grinding wheel 22 relative to the thread to be removed as the plug is rotated in the bore.
