Abstract

1329444 Photographic processes AGFAGEVAERT A G 1 Oct 1970 [4 Oct 1969] 46694/70 Heading G2C A photographic process for producing negative visible images comprises imagewise exposing alayer containing a simple or complex salt of a metal of group VIA, VIIA or VIII of the Periodic Table with a mono- or poly-carboxylic acid and treating the layer with a compound containing an -o-o-group thus producing a visible image either (i) physically by formation of vesicles (in which case the salt is dispersed in a binder) or (ii) chemically by carrying out the treatment in the presence of a reactantfor a colour-forming oxidation reaction. Specified salts are Fe, Co and Mn salts with oxalic, citric, tartaric, malic, lactic, mucic, succinic, butyric or glycolic acid. In the example, ferric ammonium citrate, potassium ferricyanide and gelatine are coated on a support, imagewise exposed to water vapour to produce a coloured image which either (i) intensified by treatment with hydrogen peroxide and a colour-forming reactant or (ii) a vesicular image produced by treatment with hydrogen peroxide vapour. Alternatively, (a) cobalt ammonium oxalate and potassium ferricyanide or (b) ferric ammonium oxalate and platinum chloride may be applied to a supported titanium dioxide/carboxymethyl cellulose layer or (c) manganese oxalate and gelatine may be applied to a support, imagewise exposed and treated with H 2 O 2 and a colour-forming reactant.
