Abstract

1329181 Heat treating steel wire FRIED KRUPP GmbH 19 April 1971 [14 March 1970] 23941/71 Heading C7N [Also in Division G3] Steel wire is heated by inductor 18 supplied by generator 19 while passing continuously between pulleys 3, 10 driven by motor 7 through common drive 6, the wire being simultaneously stretched by an auxiliary motor 12 connected into the transmission 6 through differential gear 11. Operation is controlled by unit 16, which receives inputs from temperature sensor 20, analogue or digital tachometers 13, 14, and torque meter 15, and compares these with predetermined values of temperature and stretching force fed in by potentiometers 17. Heater 18 is mounted on carriage 29 by which it can be moved along the wire path by motor 21 in the event of wire stoppage, while the product is taken up alternately on drums 22a, 22b the wire speed being temporarily reduced, and its tension maintained by conveyor 25, while changeover is effected. The latter operation is initiated by a meter 24 when a sufficient length of wire has passed to fill a drum.
