Abstract

1328324 Semi-conductor devices LICENTIA PATENT-VERWALTUNGS-GmbH 17 March 1972 [19 March 1971] 12715/72 Heading H1K A solar cell is provided with a connector secured to a contact on its top (light sensitive) surface and is protected by a cover glass (or deposited glass layer) which overlies the whole top surface together with the contact and the attached part of the connector. As shown, Fig. 1, a connector 3 is soldered or welded to an evaporated contact 2 on the top surface of a Si photocell 3. The surface is then protected by a cover glass 5 which is secured to the cell by a layer of adhesive 4 and extends over the portion of connector 3 which is secured to contact 2. Instead of an adhesively secured plate a layer of glass may be deposited on the surface by evaporation or sputtering. As shown, Fig. 2, the cell may be provided with three top surface connectors 3 and an integral lower surface connector 6 having three extending connecting tabs. A plurality of such cells can be mounted on an insulating foil and connected in series and/or parallel by means of their connectors (3 and 6), Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown). The cell may be arranged so that all the connectors can be secured to the top surface.
