Abstract

1327209 Paper-making apparatus BELOIT CORP 30 Oct 1970 51788/70 Heading D2A Paper-making apparatus comprises twin wires F1, F2 extending over breast rolls 13, 14 and foils 15 forming a vertically-aligned serpentine path of travel, the rolls and foils being mounted on beams B1, B2 which are movable about pivots P1, P2 to permit replacement of the wires and foils. A slice 11a having members 11b for increasing fibre dispersion and decreasing turbulence feeds stock into a gap G in a stream which is thinner than the gap width. The wires extend round guide rolls 19a, 21a which with the rolls 13, 14 are provided with doctors, tenisioning means T1, T2 also being provided. Each foil 15 has a leading edge which deflects the wires F1, F2 by at least 5‹ from its previous path of travel and removed water is received in a saveall Sa. The leading edge of each foil is rounded and has a hard mirror-like finish coating of tungsten carbide, titanium carbide or a ceramic-crystalline refractory metal oxide, e.g. aluminum oxide. After the foils 15 the wires F1, F2 extend over suction boxes 17, the formed web being thereafter carried by the wire F1 round a suction guide roll 19 and to a felt PF for transfer to a press section. The felt PF carries the web past a lump-clearing roll 23 associated with a conveyor C. A doctor roll 24 contacts the wire F1 and is itself cleaned by a doctor 24a. The wires are driven in synchronism by motors M1, M2 at the speed of the stream of stock. Movement of the beams B1, B2 about the pivots P1, P2 is limited by stops JS and is effected by tandem mounted rams J1.
