Abstract

1326956 Rotary/percussive drills ROBERT BOSCH GmbH 12 Nov 1970 [14 Nov 1969] 53811/70 Heading B3C [Also in Division B4] In a portable rotary/percussive drill axially directed impacts are applied to a collar 35 of a spindle 29 by a striker 38 rotatable with, and axially movable relative to, the spindle. The acial movement of the striker is effected, upon rotation of the latter, by a compression spring 43 and a cam surface 39 engaging an abutment 16. Rotation of a knob 14 changes the position of the abutment 16, so that the force applied to the collar 35 may be varied. In an extreme forward position, the abutment 16 is out of engagement with the cam so that the drill is conditioned for rotary operation only. A threaded portion 30 of the spindle receives a chuck, and excessive forward movement of the spindle relative to casing 4 will be cushioned by spring washers 27 positioned forwardly of a slidable bush 26. In an alternative embodiment the abutment is in the form of an annular collar (49), (Fig. 2, not shown), surrounding the spindle and teeth on the collar coact with teeth on the striker to produce the impacts.
