Abstract

1326734 Lifting reels TIMSONS Ltd 3 Sept 1970 [19 Sept 1969] 46268/69 Headings B8B B8H and B8R Apparatus for lifting a reel 4 of web material, e.g. paper, into a working position, comprises a pair of arms 6 having pivots 7 mounted in side plates 1, each arm 6 being in the form of a segment of a circle having a recess 9 shaped to receive the spindle end 3 of the reel 4 and having a groove 14 in its curved edge; a cable 11a (11b) Fig. 2 (not shown), is attached to the end of a respective arm 6 and passes along the groove 14 and over pulleys such as 13 to a bar 12 mounted on the ram of a pneumatic cylinder. Thus, when the ram is extended, tension is applied to each cable 11a (11b) to turn the arms 6 about their pivots so that the reel 4 is lifted into an operative position where it is received by recesses 2 in the plates 1. The apparatus may be incorporated into a machine, e.g. a rotary printing machine, for operating on the web material, or it may be portable for use in different locations.
