1326142 Making wire reinforcements; coiling helices M DEBRY 25 June 1971 [2 July 1970 2 June 1971] 29846/71 Headings B3A and B3E A machine for the automatic manufacture of reinforcement structures, particularly for concrete, comprises a drum 15 for a transverse wire c, a wire guide 14, the drum and the wire guide being rotatably mounted, reciprocable grippers 24, 24a and guide barrels 18, 18a for feeding longitudinal members, e.g. bars a, b to the drum, and means for correlating the feed of the bars with the rotation of the drum and wire guide to effect a helical winding of the wire about the bars. A frame 11 supports a cylinder 12 on which is mounted a bearing 13 carrying the pivoted wire guide 14 and the drum 15 both of which are rotated by a variable speed motor unit 16, 17. Secured to the inside of the cylinder 12 are the slidable barrels 18, 18a. The grippers 24, 24a are mounted in carriages 21, 21a, reciprocated by jacks 22, 22a both grippers and jackers being controlled by a device 25 to move in synchronism with the rotation of the drum 15. Welding devices 27, 27a actuated by jacks 29, 29a are supported in a frame 30 and weld the wire to the bars. In a modification the drum 102, Fig. 2, has rollers 103 engaging a ring 104 integral with the support 105 of a wire guide. The ring is coupled to a variable speed reduction unit by a chain wheel 106. The side 108 of the drum has a bayonet mounting to allow a bobbin of wire 101 to be positioned on the drum. An adjustable brake 114 engages the side of the drum member 102. In the frame 121 a carriage 122 mounted on rails 123 supports grippers 124 and guides 125 for adjustable barrels 126. The carriage is adjustably reciprocated by a jack 129 via a lever 130 pivoted to the frame. A second lever 136 pivoted to the lower frame 137 imparts the same movement of the carriage to a rod 139 which controls the welding supports, cutting tools or a calibrating member (not shown). The barrels 126 have catches 128, 128a for gripping the bars. In operation, at each angle of the wire on the bars A or B the assembly advances by the movements of the carriage, the bars being gripped by the grippers 124. According to the section of helix to be obtained it is either the barrel 126 of bar A which pushes the wire, or the barrel of bar B. The corresponding catches being operative or inoperative.
