Abstract
1325975 Transistor switching circuits for electromagnetic actuators BENDIX CORP 21 March 1972 [1 April 1971] 13180/72 Heading H3T [Also in Division G1] In an I.C. engine the level of voltage applied to, and hence the level of current flowing through the fuel injection valve coils is controlled in dependence upon both the level of energizing voltage applied to and the current flowing through the coils. In this manner the coils are initially energized with a high voltage which is subsequently reduced so that the valves are speedily opened and then supplied with current just sufficient to maintain them open. The fuel injection system, Figs. 1 and 2 (not shown) is of the type which provides a pair of variable duration injection pulses upon being triggered in response to engine rotation. Each pulse pair is applied at location 126 to energize the injector valve coils 606 via a power stage 302. A pair of variable impedances 304, 306, e.g. transistors, are provided to control the level of energizing voltage applied to the coils. When the coils are initially energized, the voltage at location 316 is regulated to a high value V 2 by comparing it at 312 with the voltage V 2 to regulate impedance 306. As more current flows through the coils, the voltage at location 314, indicative of the current flow, increases until, when it reaches the value V r set by a generator 318, is maintained at that value by varying impedance 304. The voltage at 316 then begins to drop thereby causing the reference voltage V r to drop to a second value. The comparator 310 then varies the impedance 304 in order to reduce the voltage at 314 to the new reference V r thereby providing a reduced current flow through the coils. Details of the transistorized circuits 302, 304, 306, 310, 312, 318 and 322 are provided in Fig. 4 (not shown).
