Abstract

944,148. Transistor switching circuits. ROBERT BOSCH G.m.b.H. June 1, 1960 [June 26, 1959], No. 19366/60. Heading H3T. [Also in Divisions F1 and G1] The duration of fuel injection time for an I.C. engine is controlled by a transistor monostable relaxation oscillator in accordance with the degree of vacuum in the inlet manifold. The control circuit for the injection valves comprises two transistors 35, 36 connected as a relaxation oscillator with 36 normally conducting. A cam-operated switch 43 driven by the engine shaft produces a pulse on the base of transistor 35, causing transistors 35, 36 to change over, until 36 is again conducting after a delay determined by the inductance of coil 53 whose magnetic circuit includes an armature 54 movable by a rod 55 attached to a diaphragm sensitive to the degree of vacuum. Whilst transistor 36 is blocked, the change in potential at junction A blocks transistor 34 and allows transistors 37, 38, 39 to conduct, whereby winding 31 of valve 21 is energized and raises valve cone 101 to allow fuel to be fed into the cylinder. The valve 21 closes when transistor 36 reverts to its stable conducting condition. When the engine is rotating at higher speeds, the rate of change of flux in coil 53 produces an induced voltage which modifies the time during which transistor 35 is conducting. The pulse durations can also be altered, or switches S1, S2 associated with transistor 35.
