Abstract

1324862 Corrugated board A E EDKVIST 28 Aug 1970 [29 Aug 1969] 41497/70 Heading B5N Corrugated board is produced by joining together at least one liner layer and a corrugated layer by passing them between rolls rotatable about their longitudinal axes, a molten material, which is solid at room temperature being applied to the surface of,the liner layer or layers and/or to the surface of the corrugated layer before they are contacted by the rotatable rolls by directing the molten material to move freely on to the surface or surfaces of the layers. The molten material may be applied by spraying or spattering. In Fig. 1 liner layers 1 and 2 are passed over guide rolls 6 to the gap between layer joining rolls 7 between which they are joined to intermediate layer 3 brought to corrugated form 5 by means of interengaging heated toothed rolls 4. Molten material is sprayed on to the surfaces of liner layers 1 and 2 facing corrugated layer 5 and also on to the surfaces of corrugated layer 5 facing liner layers 1 and 2 by spraying units 8 disposed in chamber 12 the air of which is heated by means of thermostat-controlled resistance elements 13. Prior to passing through rolls 4, layer 3 may be rendered water resistant by spraying with a molten material by means of spraying units 9, and the outer surfaces of the finished board may be rendered water resistant by spraying by means of spraying units 10 and given smooth surfaces by means of smooth rolls 11. In an alternative arrangement the molten material is applied to one of the liner layers in a first station, urged against the corrugated layer 1 by means of a roll which is kept pressed against a toothed roll for forming the corrugations, molten material applied to a second liner layer in a second station and the second liner layer urged against the corrugated layer between the layer joining rolls.
