1324685 Frames and joints SIEMENS AG 27 July 1970 [25 July 1969] 36349/70 Heading A4H [Also in Division E1] A frame work e.g. of sheet steel (1), Fig. 1 (not shown) for a housing for electric apparatus, comprises rectangular frames 2 (, 3) detachably connected by corner and side spacer pieces 4 (, 5), each connection including a fluid-tight T-section elastic, e.g. rubber, sealing element 14. The corner of L-section frame 2 has a cut-away 6, Fig. 2, with edges 7, 8, and an abutment piece 10 with depressions 11 is welded to the inside of the corner. A limb 16 of the sealing element is inserted between frame 2 and a bearing surface (15) of piece 10 (see Fig.3, not shown) and is elastically deformed. Projections 12 on L-section spacer piece 4 are then inserted into the depressions 11 so that the other limb 18 of the sealing element 14 lies in an elastically deformed condition between the spacer piece 4 and the bearing surface (15), and the stalk 17 of the sealing element is compressed between edge 8 of frame 2 and an opposite edge 13 of piece 4. The stalk 17 being substantially flush with the outer surfaces of parts 2, 4 adjacent the edges 8, 13. Frame 2 and piece 4 are held together by a threaded bolt 25, Fig.6, welded to piece 4 at 45 degrees and passed through an aperture 26 in piece 10 and a pressure member 27. A bent end 31 of member 27 bears against the edges of extensions 28 of aperture 26 so that on tightening a nut 32 on bolt 25 member 27 pivots and piece 4 is pulled into the corner of frame 2. This compresses stalk 17 between the edges 8, 13. In a second form, Figs. 8-13 (not shown), piece 4 has offset ends (36) with bent portions (37) for engagement in the frame corner, the ends (36) including pressed-out surfaces (38) to define a slot (40) for the sealing element 14. In a third form, Figs.14-17 (not shown), a substantially planar side spacer piece (5) has straps (50) with elongate holes (51) for screws for securing to the frame 2 and a central tongue (52) with a pressed out support surface (53) to define a slot for the sealing element 14. A fourth form Figs.18-19 (not shown) has the straps (50) bent at 90 degrees for securing to a C-section frame which has a slot (60) for the tongue (52). In a fifth form, Figs. 20-21 (not shown), two frame parts (62, 63) are connected to a corner piece (60) with the interposition of two sealing elements 14. The framework may include doors and covers with fluid-tight seals (20, 21) Fig.4 (not shown); or a frame and cover may be provided by a single dish-shaped frame component. The framework may comprise glass fibre reinforced synthetic resin.
