1324131 Locks DAIMLER-BENZ AG 1 June 1971 18355/71 Heading E2A A door lock actuated by a pull handle comprises a pivoted bow 7 having a stem 7b and a pivoting inertia man consisting of a lever 10 which on movement of an arm 11 thereof towards the handle bow prevents pivoting of the bow to lock releasing position. The bow 7 of the handle is mounted on a handle plate 7a in a bracket 8 on a door panel T. The stem 7b projects through an opening in the plate beside a lock cylinder S. The lever 10 pivots on a bracket 9 projecting from one edge of the plate opening and is urged by a spring to engage a pin catch 14 on the stem. The lever is released by pulling the handle bow 7. An impact 16 on the outside of the vehicle causes a reaction force 21 on the lever which holds the lever in engagement with the pin catch. An impact on the inside of the door causes the lever to pivot clockwise to release the catch pin nevertheless the door remains closed due to the inwardly acting reaction force on the door bow. In one modification the lever has a terminal hook which engages a notch in the stem and in another modification the inertia mass is integral with an extension of the bow beyond the pivot which is approximately situated at the centre of gravity.
