1324071 Gripper axminster looms ASSOCIATED WEAVERS Ltd 20 July 1970 [5 May 1969] 22823/69 Heading DIE In a gripper Axminster loom, short and long tufts are selectively obtained by lowering yarn carriers 1 out of the cutting stroke of knives 2 after the grippers have gripped the yarn 5 ends, where a long tuft is desired, drawing the grippers away from the carriers, operating the knives 2 so that the short tufts are cut, then raising the carriers corresponding to the long tufts into the cutting position, moving the grippers further away from the carriers to draw more yarn, and then actuating the cutters 2 to cut the long tufts. The knives 2 may be moved away from the carriers 1 when the long tufts are cut, by a cam acting through rod 14, levers 17, 13 and push rod 6. The knives 2 are moved a distance laterally in one direction to cut the short tufts, then a similar distance in the same direction to cut the long tufts. The knives may cut the tufts in the next cycle on its return movement. The carriers 1 are controlled by a Jacquard.
