Percussive drills.- In a pneumatic machine tool actuacted by an air compressor through a single duct G, the air from the duct first reaches the upper end of the machinetool cylinder M through a pipe P provided with a cock Rand a non-return valve Q, and as the piston N descends the air enters the cylinder M through an opening F also. The bottom end of the cylinder M has an adjustable opening U. When the tool is a rock drill T, it is provided with a duct k through which some of the compressed air passes to set up the requisite air blast. The timing of the compressor valve delivering to the cylinder M may be varied to suit the weight and volume of the tool.
