Abstract

18,404. Berner, A. Aug. 7, 1913, [Convention date]. Percussive drills.-In a coal or rock boring- machine operated by reciprocating columns of air, after each stroke of the piston 13 compressed air escapes from the percussion cylinder 9 through an exhaust valve 21. The exhaust passage may be controlled by a cock 22 to vary the force of the blow and two exhaust valves 21 may be provided. A spring 19 prevents the percussion piston 13 from striking the front cover of the percussion cylinder and a bifurcated air-inlet passage 15, 16, with a non-return valve 18 on the branch 16, protects the rear cover; a similar bifurcated passage may be provided for the front end of the percussion cylinder. Twist mechanism comprising a rifle bar 24, a ratchet-wheel 23 and a pawl is provided. Specification 35/14 is referred to.
